Serostim® is one of the many prescription drugs containing human growth hormone. It is made by EMD Serono. Like all forms of somatropin, it is made from recombinant DNA and designed for subcutaneous injection.
It is prescribed primarily for patients with growth hormone deficiency and for the treatment of HIV-positive patients with wasting or cachexia in order to increase lean body mass and body weight and improve physical endurance. It is also a common medication for adults where it can be prescribed to treat adult-onset or “age-related” growth hormone deficiency (AGHD), or for adults experiencing muscle wasting caused by HIV-AIDS and for the treatment of short bowel syndrome in adult patients receiving specialized nutritional support.
This medication is available as a sterile lyophilized powder intended for subcutaneous injection after reconstitution to its liquid form. Vials of Serostim contain either 4 mg, 5 mg, or 6 mg.
Like all HGH injections, Serostim is used to replace growth hormone in adults and children with growth hormone deficiency (GHD). How to Use
Serostim® is injected into a muscle or under the skin. Serostim® can be self-administered every day or every other day, usually at bedtime, as prescribed by your healthcare provider.

According to the manufacturer, after reconstitution with Bacteriostatic Water for Injection, USP (0.9% Benzyl Alcohol), the solution should be stored under refrigeration (2-8°C/36-46° F) for up to 14 days. Reconstituted vials of Serostim should not be frozen.
