Omnitrope is a prescription drug that can be quite beneficial in treating patients with growth hormone deficiencies. However, like all drugs, it has some potential side effects and adverse reactions.
The following comprehensive list of benefits and side effects are the same for Omnitrope Pen or vials. Please keep in mind that the common side effects and adverse events are listed as potential issues. Every medication, even aspirin, has a list of side effects. When used as directed, Omnitrope is quite safe and effective, and its many benefits far outweigh its potential risks.
Omnitrope is a brand of prescription HGH injections made by Sandoz Pharmaceuticals. It is one of the most popular brands of HGH prescribed to treat growth hormone deficiencies. All HGH injections, including Omnitrope, are the same medication known as somatropin. Somatropin is a synthetic form of human growth hormone (HGH) that is made from recombinant DNA. Therefore, it is almost an exact duplicate of the HGH normally produced by your pituitary gland.
Because Omnitrope is made from human DNA, it is very well tolerated; however, like any prescription medication, it is not without some risk of side effects and adverse effects. For most patients, however, the many benefits of Omnitrope far outweigh any risks, side effects, or potential adverse events.
This medication is most often prescribed to stimulate growth in children who are failing to meet growth milestones. However, stunted growth in children is not the only reason it is prescribed. Omnitrope is also used to treat “adult-onset” or “age-related” growth hormone deficiency in adults.
Before we discuss the benefits of Omnitrope, let’s talk a little about HGH, what it is, and why it is so important.
Human growth hormone, or HGH, is one of your body’s most important hormones. It is made and released by the pituitary gland. As the name implies, it is responsible for growth and all the related processes that allow a child to grow and mature into an adult of full stature. Even as adults, HGH continues to play a crucial role in the cell growth and renewal of every organ and tissue in your body.
Because HGH is so vital, any kind of growth hormone deficiency, or GHD, can result in severe consequences. GHD in children can be caused by any disease or syndrome that impacts pituitary function. Childhood GHD is marked by a failure to reach growth milestones for a given age.
Adults with growth hormone issues can be the result of a childhood GHD that went untreated or was treated improperly and continued into adulthood. But, more often than not, HGH deficiency in adults is caused by the normal drop in HGH as we age. This is known as “adult-onset” or “age-related” GHD, and it can cause any number of issues, from fatigue and sexual dysfunction to cognitive difficulties and emotional issues.
In either case, the treatment for GHD is prescription HGH injections like Omnitrope.
For patients suffering from GHD, in particular adult onset or age-related GHD, the benefits of Omnitrope injections are many. In fact, many of the symptoms we think of as aging can be slowed or reversed by HGH injections. Its key benefits include:
Enumerable peer-reviewed clinic studies provide evidence for the many benefits of HGH injections like Omnitrope listed above.
The National Institutes of Health have recently provided the Ohio University Edison Biotechnology Institute and Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine with $2.23 million to John Kopchick, Ph.D., to follow up on his earlier work that found that growth hormone could extend the lifespan of mice.
A study entitled Obesity, growth hormone, and weight loss concluded that growth hormone could indeed reduce abdominal fat.
Another found that HGH specifically reduced obesity in post-menopausal women. And yet another on HGH and weight loss in children confirmed that “HGH had [fat burning] properties that resulted in reduction and redistribution of body fat.”
A study on HGH published in the March 2018 edition of the International Journal of Molecule Science, entitled, Treatment with Growth Hormone for Adults with Growth Hormone Deficiency Syndrome: Benefits and Risks concluded: “Growth hormone replacement exerts unquestionable beneficial effects in many [adult] patients with GHD, and its use is safe for approved indications. [In addition,] HGH has shown beneficial effects on body composition, exercise capacity, bone structure, serum lipids, and quality of life.”
There have been several research studies that provide evidence of a link between HGH and depression. A 2021 study published in Frontiers – Neuroendocrine Science found that patients with a decreased HGH level had significant increases in depressive thoughts as scored by standard tests used to evaluate clinical depression.
A paper entitled Human Growth Hormone In The Treatment Of Biological Depression concluded that “HGH should be considered as a novel approach to treat depression in certain patients.”
A 2001 study found that HGH supplementation can improve the quality of life in elderly patients, including improvements in memory, cognition, and mood.
A 2019 study looking at the impact of HGH replacement on muscle strength and tone in older men said “Our study demonstrated an increase in muscle strength in the lower body part after HGH therapy in healthy men.” The study involved fourteen healthy men aged 50–70 years, whose baseline muscle strength was determined by leg press and bench press exercises, which focus primarily on the quadriceps, the lower body part, and the pectoralis major—the upper body part. After six months of HGH replacement therapy, the men in the HGH group did not show much difference in upper body strength, as determined by bench presses. Still, they showed “significant” increases in lower body strength as indicated by vast improvements in strength in the leg presses.
An earlier study in 1997 found that two years of growth hormone therapy in patients known to have weakened muscles due to growth hormone deficiency provided significant increases in “isokinetic muscle torque.” The researchers concluded that this study provided “convincing evidence that HGH and IGF-I have a regulatory effect on muscle morphology, function, and metabolism.”
Omnitrope is generally regarded as safe. However, like any medication, it has potential adverse effects, warnings, and contraindications. However, remember that when used as directed and with proper medical supervision, for most patients, the many benefits of Omnitrope far outweigh any potential risks of side effects or adverse reactions. Always consult a licensed healthcare provider to minimize risks and monitor therapy.

While the above list of Omnitrope risks, warnings, and side effects can seem daunting, we must list all such information for legal reasons. The truth is that for most patients, the many benefits of Omnitrope far outweigh any potential risks. Most of our patients who have been prescribed Omnitrope go through their course of growth hormone therapy with few, if any, complications.
You will be carefully monitored during your time on this medication, and in the rare instance that adverse effects arise, they can usually be mitigated by adjusting your dose or switching to another brand of HGH.

An important note about the potential side effects of Omnitrope. The chances of side effects are increased many times if you use Omnitrope or any HGH product illegally. Somatropin products are powerful medications that are only available with a doctor’s prescription for good reason. Abusing or otherwise using HGH illicitly can result in severe, even fatal, side effects. If you think you can benefit from Omnitrope, NEVER try to get it independently without a prescription.
